About
R&M CONSULTANTS, INC. (R&M) is an Alaska-based company originally formed in 1969. Since our inception, R&M has provided planning, design, and construction administration services related to waterfront facilities for ports and harbors throughout Alaska. Ports and harbor facilities in Alaska require special design considerations for cold weather considerations associated with our extreme environmental conditions (e.g., extreme tides, snow and ice loads, icing within port and harbor facilities; cold temperature effects on utility design and seasonal versus all-season services to waterfront facilities; permafrost; seismic conditions; etc.). R&M is experienced with designing for these challenges, as is exemplified by our staff’s wide range of waterfront engineering project experience. R&M’s marine staff waterfront facility design experience includes piers and wharfs, breakwaters, coastal erosion protection, dredging, harbor float systems, terminals, barge landings, boat launch ramps, bulk handling facilities, travel lift facilities, condition assessments and maintenance of port facilities, fender and mooring systems, waterfront area master planning and upland support facilities. In addition, we have in-house expertise available to provide assistance with the necessary support services for these projects, such as geotechnical studies, civil transportation and utilities design, structural/building design, on- and off-shore surveying, sediment sampling and permitting, and other environmental permitting. R&M’s marine r staff has completed waterfront projects in all coastal areas of the state, in communities such as Anchorage, Akutan, Barrow, Bethel, Chenega, Cold Bay, Cordova, Dillingham, False Pass, Golovin, Haines, Hydaburg, Homer, Juneau/Douglas, Kenai, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Kongiganak, Mertarvik, Nikiski, Old Harbor, Pelican, Petersburg, St. George, Skagway, Sand Point, Seward, Sitka, Togiak, Tatitlek, Unalaska/Dutch Harbor, Ugashik, Valdez, Whittier, Wrangell as well as U.S. Navy piers in Amchitka and Behm Canal, among others.
